            13th Century Irish Norman high cross(11''tall $60.00) 

I sculpt my crosses in an oil based clay paying very careful attention to detail.When satisfied I create a mold using a liquid latex which is allowed to set over night.Within this mold  hydrocal gypsum cement is poured which is much harder than plaster and it captures very fine detail.After the hydrocal sets the crossis removed from the mold.I continue to carve in some of the fine detail.Finally the cross is coated in bronze and a patina is added. The patina protects the bronze and also adds dept and age.                               Cold cast bronze.Crosses range from 6'' tall to 12' tall.

Near the end of the seventeenth Century very harsh laws were introduced against Catholics which were designed to ensure that Catholics remained poor, ignorant and without spiritual guidance.These were known as the Penal laws.The Penal cross was designed to be hidden on ones body.The image of Christ was very often their only symbol of hope.
